Endocrine Tumor Program

Mays Cancer Center, home to UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center, is a destination for endocrine tumor evaluation and treatment. Patients from across South Texas and as far away as Mexico put their trust in our capabilities.

Endocrine tumors arise in hormone producing organs. Some tumors occur spontaneously (without a known cause). Others are passed down in families.

We care for a high volume of common conditions, such as thyroid nodules. Our expertise also includes rare, inherited issues, such as von Hippel-Lindau syndrome and multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) syndrome. Across the many conditions we treat, you can count on us for leading care, including in-depth evaluations and personalized therapies.

Endocrine tumors we treat

Why choose us for endocrine tumor care?

Our team includes fellowship-trained adult and pediatric endocrinologists (doctors specializing in hormone-related conditions) with decades of experience. They work side by side with surgeons who also have fellowship training in endocrine tumor treatment. Some of our experts are advancing endocrine tumor screening and treatment through research to discover new innovations.

Timely, accurate diagnosis

Your care starts with a thorough evaluation from one of our highly skilled doctors. With our on-site lab, you have easy access to additional testing.

If we need a tissue sample (biopsy) to confirm a diagnosis, our radiologists or endocrinologists typically perform the biopsy. Our team works to deliver results promptly so we can tailor the next steps of your care in a timely manner.

Endocrine tumor treatment

Specialists in endocrinology, cancer care (oncology) and surgery work together to coordinate your care. Some patients can undergo robotic surgery, which uses surgical technology for precise care. If the tumor or treatments disrupt hormone levels, your care may include personalized hormone therapy.

Specialized care for rare and inherited endocrine disorders

We are experienced in treating rare conditions such as multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) syndromes that need lifelong care and may require multiple surgeries. Find out more about rare and familial endocrine tumors

We offer robust genetic testing and counseling services that help families learn about their risk of inherited endocrine tumors. We provide ongoing monitoring to detect the early signs of potential tumors. Learn more about our cancer genetics and high-risk screening clinic.
