Meet the Mays Cancer Center's newest providers
Lakshmi “Bala” Balasubramanian, MD, MS, is an associate professor in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at UT Health San Antonio. She is a board-certified and fellowship-trained gastrointestinal medical oncologist with over 20 years of experience. She specializes in treating esophageal, colorectal and stomach tumors. Her clinical and research interests include sustainable practices and health equity, ensuring quality care for all.
Jessica Trevino Jones, MD, is a board-certified breast medical oncologist and associate professor in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at UT Health San Antonio. Jones leads the Mays Cancer Center’s Cancer Risk Reduction and Education Program. She is passionate about screening and prevention, particularly those in underserved communities at high risk for cancer. In addition to seeing patients in person, she uses telemedicine to reach high-risk patients across South Texas.
John LeVasseur, MD, is a fellowship-trained Mohs micrographic surgeon with over two decades of experience. He specializes in skin cancer (most commonly basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma) and cutaneous reconstructive surgery to restore functionality and aesthetics after treatment. Dr. LeVasseur previously practiced Mohs surgery in the U.S. Air Force as part of their military dermatology training program and in private practice.

Saba Shaikh, MD, is a breast medical oncologist at Mays Cancer Center and an assistant professor in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at UT Health San Antonio. She joined the Mays Cancer Center from Fox Chase Cancer Center. Dr. Shaikh received her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and completed her residency at Northwestern University’s McGaw Medical Center. She received her fellowship training in Hematology-Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
