From Steroids to Shape Shifting - How the Androgen Receptor is Primed to Drive Cancer
A trainee poster session will showcase cancer research projects from UT Health San Antonio and The University of Texas at San Antonio undergraduate, graduate/predoctoral students and postdoctoral fellows whose mentors are full or associate cancer center members. Projects presented must be cancer-related. Judging will be conducted by a panel of Mays Cancer Center members during the symposium, and awards will be presented for first, second, and third place in undergraduate, graduate/ predoctoral, clinical postdoctoral and basic science postdoctoral categories. Only students and postdoctoral fellows (both basic and clinical) are eligible for awards. Faculty are welcome to submit an abstract for presentation but will not be considered for the competition.
Registration and Call for Abstracts open on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025 and the call for abstracts closes on Jan. 16, 2026. For additional details and information on the symposium program, registration and abstract submission for the poster session, please see below.

BACKGROUND:
A highlight of the symposium will be a trainee competition. Undergraduate, graduate/predoctoral and postdoctoral students/fellows can showcase their cancer research projects. Only abstracts that are cancer-related will be accepted. Faculty interested in presenting their research are also invited to submit an abstract but will not be considered in the competition.
POSTER INSTRUCTIONS: You will be responsible for developing a 4X3 ft poster using the following general rules and guidelines.
Please consider your abstract submission approved for poster fabrication unless told otherwise.
- The poster should feature the title of the project/program, the principal investigator and any other contributor
- The poster's content should be divided into appropriate sections (i.e., background/introduction, aims, methods, data/results, conclusions, significance/impact, etc.).
- Include illustrations if possible - figures, tables, color photographs, charts.
- The font used should large enough for easy reading.
- All posters should note which grant(s) and core(s) supported the research
You are allowed to submit an already fabricated abstract/poster as long as its dimensions are 4X3 ft.
The MCC Office of Education will print your poster if you submit it to mccsymposium@uthscsa.edu no later than noon on 1/28/26.
