About Madeline Flores, MD
Madeline Flores, MD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, specializing in cancer rehabilitation. She is the co-director of the cancer rehabilitation program at Mays Cancer Center, home to UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Flores was born and raised in San Antonio, where she met her husband while in medical school at UT Health San Antonio. She completed her internship in internal medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and subsequently moved to Chicago for her Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at Northwestern University Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, where she also served as chief resident. During her residency training, she received high-quality, evidence-based training in all areas of rehabilitation medicine, with a special emphasis on cancer rehabilitation. She worked alongside cancer rehabilitation specialists and oncologists at Northwestern University Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center.
She has given several lectures focusing on chemotherapy and paraneoplastic peripheral neuropathies, post-mastectomy pain and setting rehabilitation goals for patients with advanced disease. In addition, she conducted research focusing on pelvic floor dysfunction in the gynecologic oncology population as well as health disparities in inpatient cancer rehabilitation.
Flores is passionate about improving patients' quality of life and functional independence throughout their cancer journey, from diagnosis to survivorship. She practices individualized, holistic, patient-centered care. In her spare time, she enjoys exercise, cooking, traveling, connecting with family and friends and walking her neighborhood with her husband, Michael and dog, Winnie.
