About Jorge Lopera , M.D.
Jorge Lopera, MD, has served as chief of the Interventional Radiology service at The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio for the last 10 years. When he took over the Body IR service in 2016, it saw a 300% growth.
In 2014, Dr. Lopera helped developed Code Angio, a rapid response system for patients with major trauma, which helped improve response time to less than 40 minutes.
He also helped develop and implement the Liver Tumor Center with the transplant service and the Texas Liver Institute. At this center, patients with liver tumors are seen by a multidisciplinary team of doctors including oncologists, surgeons, hepatologists, pathologist and interventional radiologists, all on the same day.
Dr. Lopera was also named one of San Antonio’s Top Doctors 2021.
