Jay Parekh, MD

Jay Parekh, MD, is a medical oncologist specializing in gastrointestinal (GI) cancers at Mays Cancer Center. He is also an assistant professor in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Parekh cares for patients with cancers of the gastrointestinal system and provides medical treatment tailored to each patient’s diagnosis and treatment needs.

His clinical and research interests include gastrointestinal cancers, early-phase clinical trials and the development of new treatment approaches for solid tumors.

Dr. Parekh earned his medical degree from Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College in Mumbai, India. He completed his internal medicine residency at Bridgeport Hospital/Yale New Haven Health, where he later served as chief resident. He then completed his hematology and oncology fellowship at UT Health San Antonio and joined the faculty in 2026.

He is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, American Association for Cancer Research and SWOG Cancer Research Network.
