About Jay Ferrell, MD
Jay Ferrell, MD, is an associate professor of head and neck surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology and director of the Division of Head and Neck Surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He leads the head and neck robotic surgery team at the Mays Cancer Center, home to UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer. Dr. Ferrell was one of the first in the region to perform trans-oral robotic surgery (TORS) and continues to offer these cutting-edge procedures to the people of San Antonio and South Texas.
Dr. Ferrell is a Texas native who completed his medical and residency training at Texas A&M University and the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, respectively.
During his residency training, he had the opportunity to rotate on the head and neck service at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and gained invaluable experience in the multidisciplinary care of head and neck cancer patients. He then pursued an advanced head and neck surgical oncology fellowship at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland.
Dr. Ferrell treats both benign and malignant disorders of the head and neck, but he has a specific clinical interest in transoral robotic surgery (TORS) and the surgical management of thyroid and parathyroid disorders. His academic interests include quality and outcomes in head and neck cancer treatment, head and neck endocrine surgery and disparities in healthcare delivery.
