Jacob Schmelz, MD

Jacob Schmelz, MD, is an assistant professor of hematology at The University of Texas at San Antonio and associate program director for the Hematology-Oncology Fellowship program. Dr. Schmelz specializes in blood disorders, with clinical interests including bleeding disorders, vascular anomalies and blood clots such as deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. He practices at Mays Cancer Center and the South Texas Center for Bleeding Disorders at UT Health Gateway.

Dr. Schmelz earned his undergraduate degree in physics from The University of Texas at Austin and his medical degree from McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. He completed his internal medicine residency and hematology fellowship training at UT Health San Antonio, where he also served as chief resident for research and education.
