    About Deanna Maida, M.D.

Dr. Deanna Maida is an assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. During her fellowship at UT Health San Antonio, she initiated a project in the field of bioinformatics, studying the effects of genetic variants in the ARID5B and CYP1A1 genes and relationship to acute lymphoblastic leukemia risk in the Hispanic population. She also designed and implemented a grant funded quality improvement project educating hemophilia patients, their families and their community in our South Texas outreach population.

She initiated an agreement proposal to be included in the Children’s Hospital Acquired Thrombosis Registry and has worked with our Hemophilia Treatment Center’s physical therapist to implement a prospective cohort study understanding the usefulness of point-of-care ultrasound for evaluation of acute bleeding in the clinic setting. She authored a book chapter on inherited thrombocytopenia. She aided in designing inpatient general pediatric thrombosis prophylaxis guidelines, implemented argatroban guidelines, and updated warfarin guidelines for use. She currently is in the process of designing a pediatric stroke code algorithm for hospital-wide use. She has been involved with medical student, resident, and faculty education regarding both hemostasis and thrombosis.
