    About Deanna Maida, MD

Dr. Deanna Maida is an assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and medical director of the South Texas Center for Bleeding Disorders. She specializes in diagnosing and treating blood disorders in children, including hemophilia, thrombosis and inherited platelet conditions.

Her research focuses on understanding genetic factors linked to blood cancers, including how certain genetic variants may affect leukemia risk in Hispanic children.

Her clinical work includes leading quality improvement projects to educate patients and families about hemophilia, collaborating on national research registries and studying new ways to use point-of-care ultrasound to detect bleeding more quickly and accurately. She has also contributed to developing hospital-wide care guidelines, including thrombosis prevention, anticoagulant use and pediatric stroke response protocols.

In addition to her clinical and research work, Dr. Maida is dedicated to educating the next generation of physicians through medical student, resident and faculty training focused on hemostasis and thrombosis.
