About David Gius, MD, PhD
David Gius, MD, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology and the assistant dean of research at The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. He's the associate cancer center director for translational research at the Mays Cancer Center, home to UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center. He is also the only radiation oncologist to serve as an Established Investigator Scholar in Cancer Research as part of the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) and one of only 60 awardees since the initiation of CPRIT in 2021.
He specializes in breast and thoracic radiation oncology and studies the cellular processes that govern aging, cellular metabolism and cancer. He has developed several mouse models to study these health issues in breast cancer and other types of human malignancies.
Dr. Gius completed his postdoctoral fellowship training at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of Chicago. He completed his radiation oncology residency at the Radiation Oncology Center at Washington University School of Medicine where he was also an assistant professor and residency director of the Cancer Biology Section in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Washington University School of Medicine. He was the chief of the Molecular Radiation Oncology Section at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) where he also served as the residency director of NCC Radiation Oncology Residency, clinical director of gynecologic services in the Center for Cancer Research and a Principal Investigator at the NCI in Bethesda, Maryland. In 2005, he became the associate program director of the National Institutes of Health Oxford-Cambridge Graduate Scholars Program which is a Trans-NIH MD/PhD Partnership Program. Before joining Mays Cancer Center, he was the clinical chief and the director of the Women's Cancer Program at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.
