About Christien Kluwe, MD, PhD
Christien Kluwe, MD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. He is a radiation oncologist specializing in genitourinary and gynecologic cancers at the Mays Cancer Center, home to UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center. An expert in stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), he developed the prostate SpaceOAR and SBRT program at Mays Cancer Center and expanded brachytherapy offerings to include prostate cancer. His expertise includes the management of metastatic prostate and kidney cancer, offering ablative radiotherapy for diseases that have spread to the brain, spine and other parts of the body.
His current research interests include image-guided brachytherapy, adaptive radiotherapy and novel techniques for ablative treatment of metastatic disease.
He is a member of the NRG Oncology Genitourinary Cancer Committee and the SWOG Radiation Oncology Committee and is the site investigator for several national clinical trials.
He completed his medical education at the University of Texas Medical Branch and research training at the University of Texas at Austin. He completed residency training and an initial faculty appointment at Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he started their adaptive radiotherapy program. He looks forward to growing the genitourinary oncology program in San Antonio, offering comprehensive care for residents of San Antonio and South Texas.
