    About Brian Fricke, MD

Dr. Brian Fricke grew up on the northeast side of San Antonio. He completed his undergraduate degree at The University of Texas at Austin where he graduated with a major in biochemistry. He returned to San Antonio for medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he met his wife.

Dr. Fricke stayed in San Antonio to complete his intern year in internal medicine, then moved with his wife to Washington, D.C., where he completed his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital/Georgetown University. During his residency, he had extensive training in all aspects of rehabilitation medicine with a special focus on cancer rehabilitation. He has had a great deal of experience participating in research at the NIH. He also became involved in advocacy for rehabilitation services for cancer patients and has helped lead several workshops on cancer rehabilitation at national conferences.

Dr. Fricke expanded on this work during his fellowship in cancer rehabilitation at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. While there, he provided several lectures to colleagues, residents and patients on the topics of shoulder dysfunction, post-mastectomy pain and disability in patients with breast cancer. He is very passionate about expanding access to rehabilitation services to all patients with cancer to help them return to a life of normalcy after cancer. Dr. Fricke is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. In his spare time, he enjoys trying new local restaurants, traveling and spending time with his wife and their two rescue dogs.
