About Benjamin Maughan, MD, PharmD
Benjamin Maughan, MD, PharmD, is a professor in the Division of Hematology and Oncology in the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT San Antonio. He specializes in genitourinary malignancies and focuses his research on understanding resistance mechanisms to identify predictive biomarkers for systemic therapies and develop novel treatments for genitourinary cancers.
In metastatic prostate cancer, Dr. Maughan studies resistance pathways, including the expression of truncated androgen receptors such as AR-V7 and the loss of tumor suppressors including PTEN and RB. His work aims to better predict treatment response and guide more personalized therapies for patients.
Dr. Maughan also leads the development of new treatment strategies. He serves as principal investigator for several investigator-initiated clinical trials and is the national lead investigator for the SWOG 2200 trial testing a novel immunotherapy combination for papillary renal cell carcinoma.
