About Benjamin Maughan, MD, PharmD
Benjamin Maughan, MD, PharmD, is a professor in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT San Antonio and director of the Clinical Trials Office at Mays Cancer Center. He specializes in genitourinary cancers, with research focused on resistance mechanisms, predictive biomarkers for systemic therapies and the development of novel treatments.
In metastatic prostate cancer, Maughan studies resistance pathways, including truncated androgen receptors such as AR-V7 and loss of tumor suppressors including PTEN and RB. His work aims to improve the prediction of treatment response and guide more personalized therapies.
Maughan also leads the development of new treatment strategies. He is the principal investigator for several investigator-initiated clinical trials and serves as national lead investigator for the SWOG 2200 trial, which is testing a novel immunotherapy combination for papillary renal cell carcinoma.
