Alexander Parikh, MD, MPH, FACS, FSSO

Alexander Parikh, MD, MPH, FACS, FSSO, is a professor of surgery and chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery. He holds the Peggy Pitman Mays Distinguished Chair in Cancer Research and is the chief surgical officer and chair of the cancer surgery service line at Mays Cancer Center, home to UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center.

He is a nationally recognized expert in treating malignant diseases of the pancreas, liver, and biliary systems and he developed the first comprehensive pancreatic cyst clinic in the South Texas region. 

His research interests include disparities in cancer care and outcomes, particularly regarding health insurance and social determinants of health, as well as comparative effectiveness research of multimodality regimens.

Parikh received his undergraduate degree at Johns Hopkins University and his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in general surgery at the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine, followed by his fellowship training in surgical oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He also obtained a master's of public health from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
