Lydia Herrera appointed as Director of Oncology Pharmacy Operations
We are excited to announce that Lydia Herrera, PharmD, MBA, has been appointed the director of oncology pharmacy operations position at the Mays Cancer Center. For the past two years, Lydia has held the position of staff pharmacist at the cancer center, where she is responsible for ensuring appropriate chemotherapy orders, coordinating the medication assistance program and supervising pharmacy technicians.
Lydia is a highly accomplished Board-Certified pediatric pharmacotherapy specialist passionate about enhancing patient care through pharmacy informatics and clinical experience. She holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from The University of Texas at Austin and completed a pediatric pharmacotherapy residency at Texas Children's Hospital.
Lydia's dedication to continuous learning led her to pursue a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare, which she successfully completed in April 2023. This diverse educational background positions her as a well-rounded professional with a unique blend of clinical and managerial skills.
With over two decades of experience in the pharmacy field, Lydia has held various significant roles throughout her career. She served as a clinical pharmacy manager at Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children's Hospital in San Antonio for 12 years. In this capacity, she provided essential clinical support to pediatric pharmacists, managed and evaluated various specialists, and played an integral role in pharmacy process improvement projects. Her involvement in multiple committees showcased her commitment to advancing patient care and safety.
When asked what excites her to come to work and her new role, Lydia said, "I like knowing that I play a part in helping patients navigate their cancer journey by ensuring their treatment is done safely. I'm excited to step into this new role and be able to make a larger impact for patients and help to implement positive change."
