About Mark Bonnen, MD
Mark Bonnen, MD, is the chief medical officer at the Mays Cancer Center, home to UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center, and chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He is a radiation oncologist at Mays Cancer Center, specializing in brachytherapy for gynecologic cancers.
He has over 35 peer-reviewed publications in oncology and other health research. Before his medical career, he studied at Texas A&M University, pursuing a Nuclear Physics and Philosophy degree.
His research interests are evaluating psychological, pharmacologic and physical interventions that decrease toxicity and improve outcomes in treatment compliance for patients undergoing radiation therapy.
He attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and completed his residency in radiation oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He then spent two years on faculty at MD Anderson Cancer Center before founding a large private practice in Houston. Dr. Bonnen served as chair of radiation oncology at Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine.
