About John Floyd, MD
John Floyd, MD, serves as chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he is also an associate professor. A skilled neurosurgeon with advanced training in neurosurgical oncology and skull base surgery, Dr. Floyd is committed to delivering expert, patient-centered care while advancing the field through academic leadership and clinical innovation.
Dr. Floyd’s path to medicine began early—he was accepted into the University of Alabama School of Medicine at just 18 years old. Before starting medical school, he completed his undergraduate studies, graduating summa cum laude. As a Rotary International Scholar, he pursued graduate studies in public health policy and clinical trial design at the University of Adelaide in South Australia.
He began his surgical training with a general surgery internship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, followed by neurosurgical residency at Vanderbilt’s Department of Neurological Surgery. Dr. Floyd then completed a fellowship in neurosurgical oncology and skull base surgery at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, further honing his expertise in the surgical treatment of complex brain and skull base tumors.
Today, Dr. Floyd brings his extensive training and leadership to UT Health San Antonio, where he is helping shape the future of neurosurgical care through education, research and clinical excellence.
