In an environment of uncertain and unfavorable diminishing federal funding for scientific research, generous community individuals are stepping up to ensure more patients survive a deadly diagnosis of cancer.
Lowry and Peggy Mays are shining examples of that generosity. In 2018, the Mays Family Foundation made a $30 million transformational gift to support the Mays Cancer Center, the newly named home to the UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center. The funds will support important key faculty retention and recruitment, cutting-edge cancer research, programs, clinical trials, new technology and cancer prevention.
The Mays Family Foundation, formed in 1994, is committed to supporting the community through causes that empower, enrich and educate. Through 2017, the foundation has contributed more than $163 million to the communities in which the family lives, works or serves.
“We are delighted to honor the Mays Cancer Center for its 40 + years of life-changing work and to support its aspirations for the future,” Lowry Mays said.
